Social Security Disability Benefits

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) provides benefits to individuals who are unable to work full time due to a disabling condition that has lasted or is expected to last at least 12 months. SSDI is based on your work history.

If you are disabled but have not worked enough to receive SSDI, you may be eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSI is a needs-based program that pays benefits to adults age 65 or older with low incomes and to disabled children with few resources.
Applying for Social Security Disability

There are a number of ways to begin a Social Security disability claim. If your claim is for SSDI only, you can file online at www.ssa.gov.

If your claim is for SSI only or for SSDI and SSI, you must call the Social Security Administration at (800) 772-1213 or go to your local Social Security office location.
Social Security Disability Review

The Social Security Administration defines disability very specifically in a five-step process. If you cannot pass each of five steps, you are not considered eligible for SSDI benefits. Denied Social Security Disability Claims
